Celebrate Largs’ Viking history
The Largs Viking Festival is one of the town’s best-known annual events, celebrating Largs’ connection with one of the most famous events in its history.
The festival commemorates the Battle of Largs in 1263, when Scottish and Norwegian forces met on the Ayrshire coast.
Since the modern festival began in 1980, it has developed into a major celebration of Viking and Scottish history, combining living history with entertainment and family activities.
Explore the Viking Village
One of the highlights is the Viking Village, where visitors can meet costumed re-enactors and discover more about life in the 13th century.
Visitors can learn about traditional clothing, weapons, jewellery, food, crafts, beliefs and everyday Viking life.
Throughout the festival there is also live entertainment, markets, workshops and activities around Largs.
Festival of Fire
The Festival of Fire traditionally provides one of the highlights of the event.
The evening includes battle re-enactments, a torchlit procession and ceremonial burning of a Viking longship, followed by fireworks over Largs Bay.
The seafront setting makes it a memorable finale to the festival and a celebration of the history and heritage of Largs.
